Types of Embroideries on Designer Kurtis in India

Kashida or Kashmiri Embroidery

Kurtis with Kashida embroidery look very beautiful. Vibrant colored threads are using for creating designs inspired from the nature such as leaves, birds and flowers.  Basically, two embroidery stitch styles are used for creating the designs. It is done on a canvas based material with crystal threads. Leather threads and Pashmina are also used for Kashida work.

Zardozi

Zardozi embroidery work is quite ornate. Practiced in Rajasthan, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Kashmir, women love wearing designer kurtis in India with Zardozi work. This type of embroidery is very popular for bridal lehengas and party wear anarkali suits. It is mainly gold thread work in which, metal ingots are melted and pressed through perforated steel sheets. This process is done to convert them into wires. The wire is hammered for obtaining required thickness.

Banjara Embroidery 


Practiced by Lambada gypsy tribes in Andhra Pradesh, this type of embroidery is a mix of appliques with beads and mirror work. Different colored cloth is laid in bands and then criss-cross stitching is done to join them.

Banni 

Also known as Heer Bharat, this embroidery originated in Gujarat. Practiced mainly by the Lohana community, silk floss is used for creating designs. This type of embroidery is quite famous for its richness and vibrancy in design patterns and color pallets. It also includes shisha (mirror) work.

Chikankari

Chikankari is also a famous form of embroidery seen on different types of ethnic wear in India. It is associated with Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. In Chikankari, artisans create individual motifs of flowers and animals. A lot of flat, raised and embossed stitches can be seen in this type of embroidery.
